Ex-India captain and coach Ravi Shastri has come out with his list of the top five greatest Indian cricketers of all time. His selection omitted big names such as Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Shastri did, however, make special mention of Jasprit Bumrah, describing him as one of the greatest fast bowlers India has ever produced, but added that Bumrah is still playing and has time to make the list in the future. Appearing on The Overlap Cricket podcast with past England captains Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook, Shastri named the players that, in his view, had the largest impact on Indian cricket. He stated, "I am looking at the most influential players of their time. The five for me are Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli." He stated Tendulkar played 24 years for India, having 100 international centuries and more than 34,000 runs, all that against some of the world's best bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Shaun Pollock, and James Anderson. Shastri spoke about the others as well. Gavaskar was the first batter to aggregate 10,000 runs in Test cricket and provided Indian cricket with self-confidence in his time. Kapil Dev, India's finest all-rounder, captained the team to the iconic 1983 World Cup triumph. MS Dhoni, one of the most placid captains, led India to three ICC titles - the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Virat Kohli, coached by Shastri, brought India to unprecedented heights in Test cricket. While some fans were shocked to find no Dravid or Kumble in his selection, Shastri explained that these five made the maximum contribution to Indian cricket.
