With Shubman Gill announced as the vice captain of the India T20 side, the usual question that arose was, where will Sanju Samson go? Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri, however, believes that Samson will be a tough man to sideline just to get the vice captain in. Sanju Samson had been a regular face in the T20I side soon after Suryakumar Yadav took over as the captain with Gautam Gambhir as the head coach. And Samson did not drown them either. Samson as an opener has been far better than him in any other place. In 41 T20Is he piled up 861 runs. He even scored three hundreds in just 12 innings, maintaining a strike rate over 153. Rather, if Gill needs to accommodate, Samson might have to go down, which won't give the results. According to Shastri, Gill must find a place down the order. In a media interaction, Shastri, in a recent media interaction, said, "He [Samson] is most dangerous in the top three. That's where he wins you matches. He should be left there. It [replacing Samson for Gill] won't be that easy. Samson has a strong record for India at the top in T20s. Even Gill will find it tough to displace him. Gill may come in for someone else, but Samson should be left alone as opener." He added, "Samson should continue playing the way he has for India in T20s. He has been consistent at the top with big runs and hundreds." Notably, Shubman Gill is unlikely to bat down the order. During the squad selection pressy, India's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, confirmed that Samson got the spot because Gill was busy with his Test assignment. Now that he is back, he will open with his Punjab teammate Abhsihek Sharma.
