India suffered consecutive losses to New Zealand and also lost a home Test series for the first time in 12 years. Batting was the department which let down the team as this is the opportunity for the Rohit Sharma-led team to enter the third WTC Final. Meanwhile, New Zealand won a Test series in India for the first time. They have been dominating proceedings with the ball in both games, hence easily winning the matches. This was also the first Test series loss for new head coach Gautam Gambhir. They comprehensively outplayed Bangladesh in the last series but nothing seems to have gone to plan against the Black Caps. This has also brought India's preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy under the scanner. Gambhir has faced a lot of criticism recently, especially, but former cricketer Ravi Shastri came in his defense and expects the team to get better under the 43-year-old. Here is what Ravi said on commentary during the second Test “New Zealand have beaten them (India) handsomely in both the Test matches. It's food for thought (on series loss). He (Gambhir) has just taken over the job. It is never easy being the coach of a team that has such a big following. It is still early days in his career as a coach. They have six more games remaining in this cycle of the championship and the team will have to win the majority of the matches to confirm their place for the final clash. However, it is not going to be an easy task as the five-match series in Australia can prove to be a difficult task. Even though the series is lost, a win can help them regain momentum in the WTC race.
