Ace batsman and Indian captain Shubman Gill has been received with thunderous applause by ex-cricketer Ravi Shastri for his outstanding knock against England in the second Test of the current series at Edbaston. Shastri compared the batting of Gill to that of legendary Sir Donald Bradman, and stated that his crucial knocks in both innings brought India the Test match and evened the series 1-1 against the Three Lions. Shastri thinks the 269 and 161 by the Indian skipper were significant for the latter to show his ability to the world, followed by his captaincy to get England bowled out. He has also praised Gill for selecting the likes of Akash Deep in Jasprit Bumrah's absence, who he thinks may be giving a lot of trouble to the English batsmen as the series progresses. Here is what Shastri said on air via Sky Sports Cricket “The best by a captain, 10 out of 10. You can't ask for anything more from a captain. You're one-down in the series. You come out there and you bat like Bradman. 269 and 161, and you end up winning the game,” “Your captaincy was very reactive in the first test match. You almost followed the ball. You're very proactive in the next game. You might have just unearthed the best seamer for English conditions in this Indian line-up by picking Akash Deep, who will trouble England as this series progresses,” Also Read | Watch: Rahul Drops Catch While Setting Field During Jadeja’s Over Gill has categorically been India's highest batter so far in the series. He began the first Test with a 147 in the first innings, but his team lost the match by five wickets on the last day. But he returned stronger to play a match-winning innings in the second Test, and became the very first-ever batter to score a 200-plus and a 150-plus aggregate in the same match. He will now be taking his team into the third Test, which gets underway on July 10 at the iconic ground Lord's. This would be the first game for Gill as a captain at the ground, and he will hope to make it a special one by not only winning the match, but also by getting his name on the Honours Board by scoring yet another triple-figure score to accompany in the series.
