On January 31, 2025, Afghan spinner Rashid Khan matched Dwayne Bravo’s world record for the most wickets in T20s. Rashid reached this milestone during MI Cape Town’s SA20 match against Pretoria Capitals at SuperSport Park, Centurion. He struck first by dismissing Pretoria captain Kyle Verreynne in the 11th over and then equaled Bravo’s record by removing Marques Ackerman in the 15th over. Bravo, who retired from T20s last year, ended his 18-year career with 631 wickets in 582 matches. Rashid, in comparison, has also taken 631 wickets but in just 460 matches. The 26-year-old, who captains Afghanistan’s T20I team, made his debut on October 26, 2015, against Zimbabwe, where he took his first T20I wicket. He is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 161 wickets. In the IPL, Rashid has claimed 149 wickets in 121 matches, and in the Big Bash League, he has taken 98 wickets in 69 matches. He has also starred in 28 PSL games, claiming 44 wickets, and his best T20 performance came in the 2021-22 BBL season when he took 6 wickets for 17 runs for Adelaide Strikers. As part of the IPL 2025 mega auctions, Rashid was retained for a whopping Rs 18 crore by Gujarat Titans. He now stands a chance to surpass Dwayne Bravo’s record and become the all-time leading wicket-taker in T20s during MI Cape Town’s next game against Pretoria Capitals on February 2 at Newlands, Cape Town.
