India's top first-class tournament is the Ranji Trophy. It is a four-day competition between 38 teams that represent each state and union territory of India. This tournament was started in 1934 when Bombay (now Mumbai) defeated Northern India in the final at Bombay Gymkhana. The most successful team in the history of the tournament is Mumbai, who have won 42 titles and, while some teams have had periods of dominance, many have struggled to win any silverware over a period of many years. The 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season was the first time Jammu and Kashmir managed to lift the title. Jammu and Kashmir Dominating Show in the Final Paras Dogra-led Jammu and Kashmir claimed their first title by defeating Karnataka in the summit clash. It was an all-round performance in the final game. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, J&K posted a mammoth total of 584 runs in their first innings. Multiple players chipped in with centuries and half-centuries. Shubham Pundir scored a valuable century while Yawer Hassan, Paras Dogra, Abdul Samad, Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Sahil Lotra all scored half-centuries. In the bowling department, Auqib Nabi turned up the heat by picking up a five-wicket haul which helped bowl out Karnataka for 293. Their only glimmer of hope in the innings was opener Mayank Agarwal who scored 160 runs, however, lacked any support from the other end. J&K continued their dominance in their second innings as hundreds from Qamran Iqbal (160) and Sahil Lotra (101) saw the team declare at 342/4. The sheer volume of runs saw the team put on an unassailable total for their opponents and earn themselves a historic victory.
