The former Pakistani cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja has grabbed yet another spotlight in the recent news when he went beyond the boundaries of comparison and compared Babar Azam to the legendary West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards. Babar Azam was omitted from Pakistan's squad for the final two Tests against England earlier this month, following a prolonged slump in his red-ball performances. He hadn't managed a half-century in Test cricket for over two years, a stretch that had put his form under scrutiny. Pakistan capitalized on his absence, winning the last two games to claim the series 2-1. This decline has been raising concerns, Ramiz Raja emphasized that Babar must showcase the qualities of a great player, comparing his potential to that of the legendary Vivian Richards. In the first statement, Ramiz expressed that Babar has yet to fully prove himself in the longer format. He highlighted Babar's immense talent, urging him to demonstrate the kind of resilience and temperament Richards was renowned for. On his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja said: "I feel Babar has to achieve a lot more in Test cricket. He plays the white-ball format really well, has an average of 50-plus in both the formats (T20I and ODI). There is so much potential in Babar Azam." He further said: "Ab unko apne temperament se batana hai duniya mei ke woh ek Viv Richards hain (now he has to prove to the world with his temperament that he is Viv Richards). Bigger the contest, bigger the innings Richards used to play." Pakistan will start their preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy with an important tour in Australia next month, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. Mohammad Rizwan will lead the team as their new white-ball captain.
