Rajeev Shukla, presently the Vice-President of the BCCI, is likely to take an interim role as President when Roger Binny turns 70 on July 19th. Shukla is a veteran cricket administrator who has run the IPL, been in politics, and been a journalist. Binny, on the other hand, is known mainly for being a part of India's historic 1983 World Cup victory. CricBlogger has received word from BCCI sources that this could happen soon. Apparently, the timing is in tune with the board's age-limit rule that compels any office-bearer to resign at age 70. As stated in the BCCI constitution, no official can hold office beyond age 70. Binny's term as BCCI President beginning October 2022 (following Sourav Ganguly), will reach the age-limit threshold on July 19th. A senior BCCI official confirmed to CricBlogger: “(Rajeev) Shukla could be replacing (Roger) Binny in July itself. The board officials are already discussing his name.” In these situations, the senior-most vice president will take over until elections are held. Shukla, who was appointed Vice-President on December 24, 2020, fits that bill and is still a strong presence at the BCCI. The Source said: “Shukla, who currently serves as BCCI vice-president, is a veteran cricket administrator and seasoned politician with prior experience as chairman of IPL.” Official word is probably closer to Binny's birthday, but if everything goes as planned, Shukla will take on BCCI responsibilities from this July—at least temporarily.
