BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla has asked cricket followers not to worry about the farewell of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both being fit and still playing and being a part of India's ODI team. These remarks came in the middle of growing gossip on whether both of them will have a farewell match similar to Sachin Tendulkar's big exit in 2013 at the Wankhede Stadium. Rajeev Shukla's Clear Stand on Retirement During a UPT20 league interview, Shukla was questioned about farewell matches for Kohli and Rohit. He downplayed the worry by pointing out that neither of the players has retired from ODIs. Shukla said: “They haven’t retired, haven’t they? Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both playing One-Dayers. They haven’t taken retirement, so why are you talking and worrying about their farewell?” He also clarified the BCCI's approach regarding retirements: "BCCI policy is quite clear; we don’t ask anyone to retire, they have to make their decisions themselves. He has to take that call, and we respect that." Shukla also reiterated that Kohli is "very fit" whereas Rohit is still a "very good player," and therefore the farewell talk was not needed at this juncture. They had bid adieu to Test cricket as well earlier this year, closing out iconic red-ball careers within days of one another. But both of their ODI futures are still active. India has not featured in an ODI since IPL 2025, and their next series comes in October against Australia. Both legends could reportedly be called up to play for the Vijay Hazare Trophy if they want to play for the 2027 World Cup, but nothing is official as yet. When questioned further about if there was going to be a farewell game at all, Shukla joked, "We’ll cross the bridge when we come to it. You are already arranging their farewell!"
