In a big blow to Rajasthan Royals' chances to win their second Indian Premier League title, Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain has fractured his right index finger during the fifth T20I played against England at Mumbai on February 2. A bouncer hurled by England pacer Jofra Archer had hit Sanju Samson on his right index finger and the finger swelled even more after he went back to the dressing room which forced Dhruv Jurel to keep the wickets for India. The injury is so devastating that it will keep Samson out of cricket for several weeks. Samson has returned to his home in Thiruvananthapuram and there, he will start his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), according to PTI. He will need to get clearance from the NCA before he returns to competitive cricket. With a six-week recovery period expected, Samson will miss upcoming Ranji Trophy quarterfinals between Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir. The source at PTI said: "Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs J&K) in Pune from February 8-12. In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals." Samson’s Disappointing Run in T20I Series vs England Samson had a disappointing series of T20I against England where he managed just 51 runs in the five matches of the series, with the highest being 26 that came in the opening game at Eden Gardens. Prior to this series, the Indian batter impressed everyone by scoring three centuries in the last seven T20I series played against Bangladesh and South Africa. However, his non-participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy led to him being left out of the Champions Trophy squad. Samson's show in the series against England was below par and disappointing, considering the form he had been showing of late. Though he managed to hit a six and a boundary after getting hit by the delivery from Archer, the swelling on his finger grew, and X-rays confirmed the fracture. The injury to Samson means Rajasthan Royals will have to rely on other players for the next season of the IPL.
