The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League is all set to kickstart on March 22, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, as the home team Kolkata Knight Riders faces Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, there are high chances that the match may get washed out, as there is a strong possibility of rain during the match hours. Even though Kolkata specifically, is facing drizzles mostly after evening, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a possibility of heavy rainfall, due to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. However, the city is already under orange alert, expecting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from March 20 to March 22. The opening match will be witnessing a grand opening ceremony orchested with performances by Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Ahuja, Shraddha Kapoor, and others. As per the forecast, there is a 10% chance of rain during the initial phase, but with time, it may increase to 70% by 11 p.m. Well, Eden Gardens has full coverage for the field, and it won't take much time to clear the water and play some balls, if rain stops midway. In that case, a shortened match or a DLS method might be used. However, if it is a full washout, both teams will share points. Meanwhile, both teams have started practicing at Eden Gardens, and have stayed almost till 8. As per reports, both teams might wrap up early today with their practice session, having a few hours before the match starts.
