Rahul Dravid will return to leading Rajasthan Royals, this time as head coach for the 2025 IPL season. His stint as the coach of the Indian cricket team finally came to an end after they won the 2024 T20 World Cup back in June. Dravid recently signed a contract with Rajasthan Royals and has started holding discussions on the retention of players for the mega auction. Dravid has a good relation with RR skipper Sanju Samson when he was an under-19 player under him. Dravid has been part of the Rajasthan Royals earlier. He led them in the years 2012 and 2013 and was their mentor from 2014 to 2015. Then, in 2016, he moved to Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals, and served them until 2019 when he was appointed the head of the National Cricket Academy. Finally, in 2021, he got appointed as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team under whose guidance they won their first ICC title in 11 years. 🚨 RAHUL DRAVID HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS RAJASTHAN ROYALS' HEAD COACH...!!! 🚨 (Espncricinfo). pic.twitter.com/H8lFGG6lGU — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) September 4, 2024 Rajasthan Royals are also likely to appoint Vikram Rathour, the ex-India batter, as one of Dravid's deputy coaches. Rathour has worked with Dravid in the past at the National Cricket Academy and was the batting coach of India since 2019. While Dravid will be at the helm of RR in the IPL, Kumar Sangakkara will continue as the team's director of cricket. He would oversee Royals' other teams, like Paarl Royals in SA20 and Barbados Royals in CPL. Rajasthan Royals have never won the IPL except for the 2008 season, the very first one. Then, in 2022, they came second, their best finish ever post-2008. In 2023, they had a good run but finished fifth and hence missed the playoff spot. Also Read | IPL Winners and Runner Ups (2008-2024)
