There were many witty and funny stories on how former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly persuaded Rahul Dravid to leave his NCA role and join the Indian Men's team as the head coach. Dravid had a rusty start but concluded his tenure with highs. He did have a 2003 World Cup déjà vu during the 2023 World Cup final defeat to Australia. And later he got a victory bump from the Indian players after the team won the 2024 T20 Men's World Cup at Barbados. He thereafter joined his former team in the Indian Premier League, the Rajasthan Royals. He was seen in a wheelchair, with broken legs, interacting with players. But his dedication couldn't yield the result RR wanted. A report later said that the franchise offered him a bigger role, which Rahul denied, leading to his departure from the team. And now, a report from MyKhel is suggesting that Rahul Dravid is all set to go back to where he came from, the National Cricket Academy (NCA), presently the Centre of Excellence (COE). The report said Dravid is supposed to take a renewed role at the NCA. Even though there is no confirmation as such on which IPL team he might join, the source informed the media outlet that he is looking for IPL opportunities. The sources said, "Laxman, currently heading the NCA, is now exploring opportunities in the IPL as part of a possible coaching reshuffle." Notably, VVS Laxman had a successful stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a mentor from 2014 to 2018. Having Tom Moody as the head coach, Laxman mentored SRH to their first-ever IPL trophy in 2016, by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In 2017, the team finished at 4th, while in 2018, they ended as the runners-up, losing to Chennai Super Kings.
