Team India started their Test series against Bangladesh on a good note yesterday. While India ended up at 339-6 on Day 1 of the first Test, R Ashwin's unbeaten 102 and Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 86 supported India's cause. At first, Team India was struggling at 144-6, but a strong partnership of 195 runs between Ashwin and Jadeja helped them recover. India have 10 Tests left in the WTC cycle. To go into the final, they will have to pocket at least five wins. They play five Tests at home -two with Bangladesh, three against New Zealand, and then five away against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This is the first Test under the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, taking over from Rahul Dravid. Under Gambhir's coaching, the team won a T20I series against Sri Lanka although India was unable to win the ODI series. Gambhir is hoping to win a Test with probably the first attempt towards India winning their first WTC title. "He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great," said Dravid, during a media interaction at the launch event of 'Roombr,' a 'Digital Classroom' provider. "In any situation everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team," he added. During Dravid's tenure as coach, the Indian team played in the finals of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship and even won the T20 World Cup this year. Just before Gambhir officially became the head coach, Dravid wished him success, “I know how dedicated and passionate you are about Indian cricket, and I’m sure you will bring all these qualities to this new job.” Dravid explained to Gambhir that there would always be overwhelming support from cricketing legends, enthusiastic fans, players, and coaching staff when such pressure was building up and he would not be left alone in those tough times.
