Rahmat Shah has made it to the history of Afghan cricket as he scored the highest individual score in a Test match. The incredible feat happened in Afghanistan's first Test against Zimbabwe on Saturday. Rahmat surpassed the previous record of 200 not out that Hashmatullah Shahidi set against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi back in 2021. Rahmat was unbeaten on 231 runs by the close of Day 3; the match was taken into the third day with Afghanistan at an excellent total of 425/2. He smashed the previous record when, off 371 deliveries, he hit his 203rd run as a boundary. Rahmat continued with his dominance and pushed the record even further with his unbeaten 231 off 416 balls. It comprised three sixes and 23 boundaries, and all these were in his flawless form and skill. Interestingly, Shahidi was present at the ground when Rahmat broke his record. On his part, Shahidi batted an excellent innings scoring 141 not out. Between them, the pair raised an incredible 361 for the third wicket- one of the most glorious partnerships in Afghan cricket's history. A regular member of the Afghanistan Test side since the debut against India in 2018, Rahmat had so far scored 809 runs in his 10 games at an average of 44.94, which included two centuries and five half-centuries. In contrast, Shahidi has scored 626 Test runs at an average of 56.90 with two centuries and two fifties. Zimbabwe had set the stage by their highest ever Test total of 586 in the first innings. Afghanistan countered it with strong grit and determination. The match transformed into a batting paradise and gave both teams the historic milestone.
