Mushfiqur Rahim overtook Mohammad Ashraful and set a new Bangladeshi mark on day one of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka on June 17. The right-hander compiled a magnificent century and emerged as Bangladesh's leading run-scorer in the game's longest version on Sri Lankan territory. Rahim currently has 755 runs (and ongoing) in 15 innings at 68.63 average, with a ton and five half-centuries in Sri Lanka. Ashraful is at the second position with 751 runs in 18 innings, then come Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, and Habibul Bashar. Tamim has scored 556 runs in 10 innings, while Mominul has 428 runs from the same number of innings, and Bashar has 291 runs across 16 Test innings in Sri Lanka. The wicketkeeper-batter, the veteran of the side, scored his 28th Test fifty and assisted Bangladesh in coming back from early collapse in the current Galle Test, which is also Angelo Mathews' retirement Test. Coming in to bat at 45/3 after 16.1 overs, the right-hander stitched an excellent 247-run stand fourth-wicket stand with his captain at the other end. Rahim and Shanto batted without fault for more than two sessions and helped to put their team on the driver's seat. While Shanto was not out on 136 off 260 at stumps, Rahim stood not out on 105 off 186. The ammoth alliance between the two saw Bangladesh finish the day on a high, 292/3 off 90 overs. Sri Lanka missed the presence of the likes of Lahiru Kumara and Praveen Jayawickrama, as they could not disrupt the alliance that lasted close to two and a half sessions on the first day of the Galle Test.
