New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra suffered a facial injury during training on Tuesday (September 30) after crashing into a boundary hoarding while trying to take a catch. The accident occurred just a day prior to the first match of the three-match T20I series against Australia at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. According to a New Zealand Cricket official report: "Ravindra received a facial laceration and will continue to be monitored by the medical team having passed an initial concussion test at the ground." Uncertainty Over Ravindra's Availability Acting captain Michael Bracewell confessed that the team administration is uncertain about whether Ravindra will be ready for the first match of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series. Bracewell said: "He just had a little bit of a cut to his face. I think he’s being assessed at the moment, it’s too early to tell what sort of impact that will have on him, but hopefully it’s just a minor graze and he’ll be out there tomorrow with us." The left-arm bowler was set to bat at number three for the Black Caps. If Ravindra is out, Tim Robinson or Bevon Jacobs are likely candidates to replace him. I can’t confirm anything, we’re still waiting on how he pulls up." Second Injury in 2025 This is Ravindra's second facial injury of the year. Earlier in 2025, prior to the Champions Trophy, he was hit on the forehead while trying to catch under lights during a tri-series match against South Africa in Lahore. That blow led him to miss the remainder of the series and New Zealand's opening Champions Trophy match against Pakistan. In spite of that blow, Ravindra recovered well, scoring hundreds against Bangladesh and South Africa as New Zealand made it to the final, where they were defeated by India. Australia Also Face Injury Concerns Australia have also been hit by a setback before the series. Talismanic all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been out of action after fracturing his forearm while training. He has been replaced in the team by Josh Philippe, who was Australia A player of the series in their recent victory against India. The three-match T20I series will take place on October 1, 3, and 4 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
