South Africa announced their ODI and T20I teams for next month's white-ball tour of England, which will be conducted from September 2 to 14. The three-match ODI and three-match T20I series will be contested across Leeds, Nottingham, Cardiff, Southampton, Birmingham, and London. When the Proteas toured England in 2022, they had ended the ODI series 1-1 and subsequently won the T20Is 2-1. This time around, the side goes with a combination of experience and some thrilling young blood, with the selectors carefully weighing form, fitness, and planning for the future. The biggest inclusion is that of Kagiso Rabada, who returns to both teams. Team management has, however, assured that he would be watched closely as he has been carrying an ankle injury. The availability of Rabada would be critical for South Africa's bowling arsenal, particularly in English conditions. Teen sensation Kwena Maphaka has been brought in as cover for Rabada in both formats. The 18-year-old pace bowler has already impressed and is still being groomed to be South Africa's future pace spearhead. A specialist finisher and one who can anchor the difficult chases, Miller's presence brings much-needed solidity to the middle-order. His experience will be crucial against England's aggressive bowling attack. Key all-rounder Marco Jansen has also been included in the T20I team after being declared fit following recovery from a thumb injury. Worth mentioning is the fact that the ODI series is scheduled to start at Leeds' Headingley on September 2, before it goes to Nottingham and Cardiff.
