After Chennai Super Kings posted an official clarification on acquiring Dewald Brevis as a replacement, Ravichandran Ashwin further took to his YouTube channel and clarified that the media twisting the lines accordingly has created the turmoil. All he did was to offer opinions, and those who watched the show had a clear idea of what he actually said on his channel. In his YouTube channel Ash ki Baaat, Ashwin said, "I just want to say this. I focus more on cricket rather than the chatter on social media. We make videos on YouTube to give our opinions. People who watch our videos, don't do any wrongdoing. However, those who don't watch can twist the statements according to their whims and fancies. In today's world, news can be made based on one statement or headline." Ashwin further praised young Brevis and said he is adding strength to the CSK batting order. Ash added, “The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. The decision to bring him on board is very good. The franchise has struck gold during the purple patch of Dewald Brevis. He has been batting really well; he hits big sixes. Power-striker, monstrous hitter against spin." In a video earlier, the former Indian spinner claimed that CSK underwent under-the-table transactions to get brevis as the replacement player for Gurjanpreet Singh. Following that, on August 17, CSK issued an official statement rubbishing Ashwin's claim and saying that all transactions were done following the regulations of IPL 2025-27. Notably, Brevis' base price was INR 75 lakhs and CSK got him for INR 2.2 crores. Ash adds, "One must understand that when a franchise wants a player, they talk to the latter and their agent. The franchise then tells the BCCI about a player getting injured and a replacement player coming in. If there is anything wrong in the process, that player would not play for the franchise." Ashwin further clears his side, saying that his intent is to speak about Brevis' batting, not his price in the IPL. And that injury replacements are pretty common. He even requests fans to hype brevis if they are a CSK or a South Africa fan. Notably, Brevis has been enjoying a purple patch recently. The 22-year-old right-hander notched up his first T20I century in the second game of the three-match series against Australia and followed it up with a solid fifty in the final encounter.
