Indian batter Virat Kohli has expressed his disappointment over the BCCI’s new rule that limits the presence of players' families during international tours. After India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3, the BCCI introduced a stricter policy regarding players' partners and children traveling with them. According to the rule, families are only allowed on tours longer than 45 days and can join after the first two weeks, with their stay limited to 14 days. Speaking about this rule at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit ahead of IPL 2025, Kohli stressed on the importance of having family support during tough times. "It's very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family after something intense happens on the field," Kohli said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. He added that he feels disappointed by the restriction. "I don't think people understand the value of having family around. It’s disheartening that people who have no control over the game are being kept away as if they are a distraction," Kohli said. His wife Anushka Sharma was even present in Dubai during the ICC Champions Trophy. Similarly, Indian captain Rohit Sharma often travels with his wife Ritika Sajdeh and their kids. Kohli also highlighted how lonely it feels to return to an empty hotel room after matches. "If you ask any player if they want their family around, the answer will always be yes. Nobody wants to go back to a room and sit alone. Having family helps you stay normal, so you can treat cricket as a responsibility, complete it, and return to your personal life," he added. Kohli will now shift his focus to IPL 2025, where he will play his 18th season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This season, RCB will have a new captain, with Rajat Patidar leading the team. RCB will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
