With only four matches left to go in the league stage of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings face a challenge in light of Glenn Maxwell's injury. The Australian all-rounder has been ruled out with a fractured finger. Maxwell may have been having a rough time batting in IPL 2025; however, his off-spin does come in handy for the PBKS bowling attack. Former India opener and now a commentator Aakash Chopra suggests that Michael Bracewell should be a target for PBKS from PSL 2025 as a replacement as they approach the playoffs. Disappointingly, Maxwell has been in woeful batting form, averaging 8.00 in 7 innings before sustaining an injury. He scored a paltry total of just 48 runs- comprising four single-digit scores and a duck; his highest score was a mere 30. Bowling-wise, he has done a little better, having taken four wickets at an economy of 8.46. With both Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson injured, as the playoffs edge closer, PBKS shall want a formidable replacement. In the year of 2023, Bracewell featured in five matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore but amassed a meager total of 58 runs off four innings. Nevertheless, he impressed whilst bowling, taking six wickets in five innings while maintaining an economy of 8.63. After a blistering start of 44 against Karachi Kings, he has lost his form ever since. In the immediate next six innings, he scored 16, 3, 9, 9, 0, and 2, maintaining an average of only 13.83. With the ball, he has taken six wickets in seven innings, with an economy rate climbing to 10.27. PBKS could engage the services of Bracewell as they did with the case of Mumbai Indians acquiring such a replacement for Lizaad Williams. Mumbai Indians used Corbin Bosch from Peshawar Zalmi as a replacement. However, PBKS is confined geographically to IPL and CPL and thus cannot easily but, more importantly, ideally pull Bracewell out of PSL. Besides, there are doubts raised by PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting on the prospects of getting a fitting replacement during ongoing PSL.
