The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will undergo its first complete player auction system when the league transitions from its existing player draft method during the upcoming 2026 season. The two new teams Kingsmen Hyderabad and Sialkot Stallionz received permission to select four players each from the unselected cricketers who were not retained by the six existing franchises before the auction. The Sialkot Stallionz made their first major signing by acquiring Steve Smith who used to be Australia's captain. Sydney Sixers produced an excellent Big Bash League (BBL) season and the experienced batter will join the league with his current strong performance. Steve Smith Strong for Ahead of PSL Steve Smith had an excellent run in the recently completed BBL. He scored 299 runs at a strike rate of 168 and hit a boundary every 4.6 balls, showing his ability to score quickly in the shortest format. Smith last played a T20 International for Australia in February 2024. His T20I record includes 1,094 runs with an average of 125 and he contributed to Australia's victory at the 2021 T20 World Cup. Between August 2015 and March 2016 he captained Australia in eight T20I matches. Smith will make his debut in the PSL despite his extensive experience in various leagues including IPL BBL and CPL which he has played throughout his career. He was selected by Multan Sultans in 2019 but he had to miss all tournament matches because of his injury. The 2026 season now gives Smith a fresh chance to finally play in the PSL. The new franchise will benefit from his presence because he will bring value to their team development work. Reunion With Tim Paine at Sialkot Stallionz The shift to Sialkot Stallionz will bring Steve Smith back together with Tim Paine who used to serve as Australia's captain. Paine has been named the head coach of the new team. The Stallionz will develop a strong team culture through their existing knowledge of the Australian national team. The PSL 2026 season is set to become one of the most thrilling editions because of the upcoming auction system and the participation of new teams in the league.
