Prithvi Shaw guided Mumbai to a good lead of 274 runs at the end of Day 4 in the Irani Cup against Lucknow, with a quick knock of 76 from 105 balls on a spinning pitch. The aggressive batting by Shaw helped Ranji champions Mumbai counter the spinners of Rest of India. Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar claimed four and two wickets for the ROI as Mumbai were at 153 for 6 at the end. Earlier, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Dhruv Jurel continued good form from the start of the day. Jurel hit a cut behind square in the first over, and both batters remained steady for most of the first session. He reached his fifty with an inside edge for four, while Easwaran hit two boundaries off Shams Mulani to bring up a 100-run partnership. He then played two beautiful straight drives off Mohit Avasthi. Finally, Mulani escaped, driving to the fuller one and smashed outside the leg stump. Jurel tried to pull it, sweeping it to the keeper and got dismissed for 93, after the stand of 165 had elapsed. Easwaran fell soon after this, top edging a sweep to fine leg, losing his wicket on 191 just before lunch. Yash Dayal survived a very tight run-out call and then Ajinkya Rahane dropped him before he played the very next ball straight down the ground for six. He was run out soon after, though. Two ducks off Tanush Kotian-one to Prasidh Krishna and the other to Mukesh Kumar-in the same over did nothing to improve that batting or the overall situation. Shaw came out aggressively with a boundary off the very first ball. He then hit three fours off Mukesh in quick succession as Mumbai reached 40 for no loss in just five overs. Saransh Jain then dismissed Ayush Mhatre, Dhruv Jurel stumping him. Shaw kept attacking and brought up his fifty off 37 balls with a six, but Suthar dismissed Hardik Tamore just before tea. Post tea, Mumbai's steam ran out and they began to encounter troubles at the hands of spinners. Rahane was dismissed lbw for no apparent reason when the review was a borderline edge. Saransh Jain sent Shreyas Iyer back and the latter then dismissed both Shaw and Mulani in a single over, leaving some hope for ROI. Kotian and Sarfaraz Khan held on and took Mumbai well into the day, ending well in a position with one hand on the Irani Cup.
