Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has released its team for the Buchi Babu Multi-Day Tournament 2025. Maharashtra has three 3-day league stage games. The tournament, conducted by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, has some special rules of its own. In the first innings, 90 overs are played by every team but that's reduced to 45 overs in the second innings. Ankit Bawne has been appointed Maharashtra's captain ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad, their Ranji Trophy skipper. Bawne was indeed captaining the team in Gaikwad's absence against Tripura last January. The middle-order batsman is Maharashtra's best captain and has captained them sporadically between 2017 and 2025. Unavailability is the reason why the MCA has not appointed Gaikwad as captain. The opener has been named in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025-26. As the zonal tournament is starting on August 28, Gaikwad will not be able to play every game for Maharashtra, and thus, Bawne has been chosen as skipper.
