Venkatesh Iyer acknowledges that playing in the Indian Premier League always comes with pressure, regardless of factors like price tags or expectations. The newly appointed vice-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shared his thoughts on the upcoming season during a recent media interaction at Eden Gardens. "It's about how you carry yourself on to the field. And are you able to fulfil the responsibility that has been given to you? And see, again, pressure is always there, irrespective. If not the price tag, it will be something else," he said. Venkatesh Iyer was one of the biggest signings of IPL 2025. Having been part of KKR since 2021, the franchise released him before the auction, leading to an intense bidding war between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Eventually, KKR used their Right to Match (RTM) card, ensuring they retained him for a staggering INR 23.75 crore. 'It really doesn't matter for what price you were picked' Despite the record-breaking price tag, the 30-year-old remains focused on performing without letting external factors affect him. "It really doesn't matter for what price you were picked or what is expected out of you. If you are taking the field for a side, you will be expected to do well. And to do well, I feel, it's not just the number of runs that you score or the number of wickets you pick," Iyer added. Venkatesh Iyer has played 51 matches across four seasons for KKR and has notched up 1326 runs at an average of 31.57. He has also picked up three wickets so far. Over the years, he has established himself as a key player for KKR and has contributed big whenever needed.
