Former Australian cricketers and present-day commentators Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer will probably be missing commentary in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, at Perth, owing to their IPL commitment. The first Test of BGT will commence in November, while the IPL auction will take place on November 24 and 24 at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. According to a report of Australian newspaper 'The Age,' "Channel Seven could be without Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer for parts of the Perth Test due to a clash of commitments, and Australia may lose a vital backroom coach for the start of the blockbuster Border-Gavaskar series in a potential stand-off with Indian cricket." Both of them are expected to be present at the auction table. Apart from that, Daniel Vettory, the assistant coach for the Autralian team, is serving as the in-charge of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Vettori too may be present at the auction table, creating a void in the Aussie coaching camp. The newspaper further informed, "Unless (Channel) Seven and Cricket Australia can protect their interests against powerful cricket authorities in India, Ponting, Langer and Australia assistant coach Dan Vettori will likely be in Saudi Arabia holding a paddle at the IPL's mega player auction in Jeddah instead of being at Optus Stadium when the first Test reaches its conclusion." Seven has a seven-year, AUD 1.5 billion deal with Foxtel to broadcast the game in Australia, but there are concerns that key figures like Ponting and Langer may still miss the final three days of the Perth Test. Last year, Ponting left after day three for the auction, while Langer stayed until the match ended. Vettori also finished his duties with Australia before attending the auction, which was held two days after the Test. As of Wednesday morning, it was still uncertain whether Vettori would stay for the entire Test or leave early for the auction.
