After Gautam Gambhir's "think about Australian cricket" remark to Ricky Ponting, the later clarified that he was in no way taking a dig but sharing his honest opinion on Virat Kohli's performance. That, Ponting is not surprised with Gambhir's attitude is what he cleared as well. Recently, Ricky Ponting opined about India star batter Virat Kohli's ongoing form, mentioning his stats. He felt that it might be a concern if the team thinks it is fine for a top-order batter to score two (three) Test centuries in the last five years. Gambhir assured the "tough men," even though are struggling now, will "achieve a lot in future as well." While asked about Gambhir's reply, Ponting cleared the air saying, he wasn't criticising Kohli. To 7NEWS, Ponting said, “I said I would be concerned (about his form). But I think if you ask Virat, I’m sure Virat would be a little bit concerned that he hasn’t been able to make the same amount of hundreds as he has in previous years. In no way was it a dig at him. I actually followed it up by saying he’s played well in Australia and he’ll be keen to bounce back over here. So, it’s amazing how little things can get cut up, but he’s a class player and he’s played well in Australia in the past." Ponting remarked on Gambhir's character Ponting is not surprised with Gambhur's response. Having worked with Gambhir, Ponting is accustomed to his "prickly" character. Nevertheless, he won't deny to shake hands with Gautam Gambhir during the border Gavaskar Series. Ponting added, “I was surprised to read the reaction but knowing the coach, Gautam Gambhir ... he’s quite a prickly character, so I’m not surprised it was him who said something back." Virat Kohli, the centre of all banters, has 1352 runs in 13 matches in Australia at an average of 54.08 down under.
