The under-19 cricket team coach of the Cricket Association of Pondicherry, S. Venkataraman, has been brutally assaulted by three young local cricketers for not selecting them in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. As per the reports of the Indian Express, Venkataraman was assaulted on December 8, at the complex of the Cricket Association of Pondicherry. Venkataraman filed an FIR at the Sedrapet Police Station claiming that the cricketers intended to kill him. However, the accused cricketers have reportedly fled. Venkataraman reportedly suffered a severe head injury and a shoulder fracture. He underwent 20 stitches on his forehead. Sub Inspector S Rajesh confirmed, "Venkataraman received 20 stitches on his forehead, but he is stable. The said players are absconding, and we are trying to track them. Further details will be revealed in due course." Venkataraman further complained about G. Chandran, who is the secretary of the Bharathidasan Pondicherry Cricketers’ Forum. According to Venkataraman, Chandran instigated the three cricketers to assault him. The complaint reads, “Around 11 a.m. on December 8, 2025, I was in the indoor nets inside the CAP complex before Pondicherry senior cricketers Karthikeyan, Aravinddaraj, and Santhosh Kumaran came and began to abuse me, insisting that I was the reason for their non-selection in the SMAT (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy) squad." It added, "While Aravinddaraj held me, Karthikeyan took the bat that Santhosh Kumaran had and attacked me with the intention of killing me. Bharathidasan Pondicherry Cricketers’ Forum accused Venkataraman Bharathidasan Pondicherry Cricketers’ Forum President Senthil Kumaran denied all the allegations made by Venkataraman. Not only that, but he further blamed the coach for behaving rudely with the players and verbally abusing them. Kumaran further added that, people are well aware of the clash between Venkataraman and Chandran. Kumaran said, "Venkataraman has a documented history of several cases against him. He has often been known to behave rudely with local cricketers, using obscene language. His grudge against Chandran is also well-known, considering that we have repeatedly raised several issues within the CAP to the BCCI over the last seven years."
