India's Test and ODI skipper, often refereed to as the 'Hitman', Rohit Sharma, played one of the best knocks in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in recent times. In the second ODI against England at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, Sharma scored his 32nd ODI century in 76 balls, his second fastest in this format. This century was a moment of redemption for Rohit Sharma as he was facing a lot of criticism for his poor form in the last few months. With this century, he also surpassed some of the cricket greats in the list of 'Players with Most ODI Centuries After the Age of 30'. In this blog, we will have a look at five players who have scored the most ODI centuries after turning 30. Sharma has scored a total of 32 centuries in One Day International (ODI) cricket, 10 of them before he turned 30. However, his career saw an upward trajectory after he turned 30. Rohit Sharma was an impactful player in his early days, but due to lack of opportunities, he often fell short of runs. However, in Champions Trophy 2013, Sharma got a chance to open for India and since then, the Hitman never looked back. His consistent performance in the 50-over ICC Tournament is unreal. Since 2015, Rohit Sharma has scored a total of 8 centuries in ICC Events-one in 2015 WC, one in CT 2017, five in 2019 WC, and one in 2023 WC. He had 21 ODI centuries to his name after turning 30 until the second ODI against England where he scored a brilliant 119 to make it 32. There's a lot of cricket left in him and with the ICC Champions Trophy around the corner, Sharma is expected to add a few more to this tally. Sanath Jayasuriya (21 Centuries) The explosive left-hander and one of the finest openers, Sanath Jayasuriya, revolutionized the game of cricket with his aggressive approach. Jayasuriya made his ODI debut in 1989 and till the year 2000, until his turned 30, the batter had only smashed seven centuries. However, the best was yet to come for the Sri Lankan great. Jayasuriya's career took a massive turn after the cricketer turned 30. From 2000 until his retirement in 2011, the left hander scored a total of 21 centuries in this format. He displayed a completely different approach to playing this format and he was one of the most dangerous batters of his time. Tillakarathe Dilshan (21 Centuries) Another Sri Lankan on the list is Tillakaratne Dilshan who is widely known for his trademark 'Dil Scoop' shot. Dilshan made his ODI debut in 1999, but it was 2006 when he scored his first ever ODI century. His career changed for the great after he turned 30 years old as the former Sri Lankan right hander ended his ODI career with a total of 22 centuries, 21 of which came after the age of 30. He, along with, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara took Sri Lanka to glory. He has contributed immensely with the bat in all the formats, especially in the longer formats. Having made his ODI debut in 2000, Sangakkara scored six centuries before the age of 30. However, after turning 30, Sangakkara scored 19 more centuries, and the southpaw never looked out of form. He was a linchpin for his side in 2011 and 2015 Cricket World Cups. His consistency and experience at the top order was remarkable. Hashim Amla (16 Centuries) Hashim Amla is the only the cricketer on this list who is not from an Asian subcontinent team. He was one of the most underrated batters in white-ball cricket. His reliability and ability to score big at a decent pace set him apart from his other fellow teammates. In his ODI career, Amla has scored a total of 27 centuries, 16 of which came after he turned 30. His ability to convert fifties into hundreds was remarkable and very few batters possessed that skill. Amla retired from One Day Internationals on a high in 2019.
