The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the annual contract of the players of the Indian men's senior team for the 2024-25 season. The players have been classified into four grades: A+, A, B, and C, depending on their performance. The elite A+ grade consists of players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who did not get contracts for the season 2023-24 as they weren't performing well and there was no space in the team, have come back this year. Iyer is placed in Grade B, and Kishan is in Grade C. Yet, certain players who played well but didn't get their central contracts this time are worth giving a place. The following are three of them who weren't included when they should have been. 3 Players Who Deserved BCCI Central Contracts Sai Sudharsan Image Source: AFP/Getty Images Sai Sudharsan is one such name. He has been outstanding in all forms, but he was left out of the BCCI central contract. Sudharsan has played three One Day Internationals for India and has 127 runs to his name, averaging 63.5. His first-class record is also impressive, with 1957 runs in 49 innings, averaging close to 40. In IPL 2025, representing Gujarat Titans, Sudharsan has been brilliant. In his initial eight innings, he has amassed 417 runs, averaging 52.12 and striking at a rate of 152.18. Despite hitting risk-free cricket, his strike rate is still above 150. His performance in both international as well as domestic cricket was consistent enough to make him a worthy player for the central contract, but the BCCI did not consider him. He has made fine innings across all three formats and is now displaying his ability in the IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals. Nair last played for India in March 2017 against Australia. He has played six Tests and two ODIs for India. His recent performances have brought him back into the radar of the selectors. Although he was not included in India's Champions Trophy team, the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar hailed Nair's performances in the domestic circuit. Agarkar said that Nair was left out because they could only take 15 players. Nevertheless, Nair may get an opportunity to play for India during the tour of England, which is scheduled to begin in June. Sundar was a part of India's Champions Trophy-winning squad and toured Australia. Sundar demonstrated his worth as an all-rounder, particularly in Test cricket. Sundar played a major role in India's 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign, scoring 114 runs in three Tests and picking up four wickets. In limited-overs cricket, Sundar has toiled hard to perfect his game to slot into India's white-ball team. Recently, in an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he made a quick-fire 49 and took two wickets in the next two matches. His all-round skills and consistent bowling deserve appreciation, but the BCCI has omitted him from the central contract list this time. These cricketers have demonstrated their skill and efforts but have been ignored for the central contracts. Their performances do the talking, and they should be included in India's future cricketing strategy.
