Following a frustrating defeat to India in the 2025 Asia Cup group stage match, Pakistan has been struggling with ignorance, as their opponent denied to shake hands and literally closed the dressing door on their face. India's cold attitude throughout the match did not sit well with former Pakistani captain Rashid Latif either. Even though Latif acknowledged India's rage regarding Pahalgam's scar, he excused tradition. He recently had a chat with the Times of India, where he recalled how players shook hands despite the strained relationship between the countries. He said, "Wars have happened before too, but we have always shaken hands. These things will remain a blot for a lifetime. We represent our countries, but I personally think what happened was not right." Rashid added, "Your reservations in terms of war or the Pahalgam attack are legitimate. But when you come to the ground, play the sport the right way. If Pakistan is involved in the Pahalgam attack, then catch those who are responsible." Speaking about Operation Sindoor, he said, "Jung hi kar lete, woh bhi nahi ki puri tarah se (India should have fought the war, but they didn’t even do that properly). India should have fought the war, they should not have backed out." He added, “To hide their own mistakes, a lot of things are being done politically. What happened on the ground was not correct."
