Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) saw their hopes for a top-two finish take a serious hit with a crushing defeat against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, May 23. Bangalore were forced to play their last home match in Lucknow after bad weather struck Bengaluru. After a blistering 94* from 48 balls from Ishan Kishan that blew RCB’s bowling apart, the Sunrisers scored 231/6. The RCB reply started strongly with Phil Salt (62 from 32) and Virat Kohli (43 from 25) steering RCB to 120/1 after 11 overs. But with regular wickets coming and going, RCB's innings ended at a total of 189 which left them 42 runs short of their target. Following the defeat, RCB went down to 3 rd in the standings with 17 points from 13 games, and a net run rate of 0.255. RCB will now have to beat the Lucknow Super Giants on May 27 and hope that Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings lose their final two matches in order to secure a top-two finish. Reflecting on the loss, Jitesh Sharma said: "I think it was 20-30 runs extra. They played very well. I didn't have any answers for their attack. We were rusty. The intensity was not there initially... In the death, we were bowling more accurately. Right now, I haven't met David because I was upset that I got out. Sometimes losing a game is a very good sign because you can check and analyse. The positive things are that everyone's chipping in. After this loss, we've got a setback to check [things] again. We'll move forward." Also Read | Who are the batters to have been retired out in the history of IPL? RCB's last league match is on May 27 against Lucknow Super Giants at BRSABV Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.
