The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a huge step in banning private cricket leagues from using the nation's name without permission. This was after Indian cricketers in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) were reluctant to play against the team known as 'Pakistan Champions' in the second edition of the tournament held in the UK. The issue was brought up at a Thursday PCB Board of Directors meeting. The board felt that India's decision not to play against Pakistan damaged the image of the country, as per Telecom Asia Sport. Therefore, they made the decision to end the usage of the name 'Pakistan' by any private team or organization unless they have the official go-ahead of the PCB. Why PCB Took This Step In the current WCL tournament, the India Champions team declined twice to play Pakistan Champions. The board explained this was not just disrespectful but also bad for Pakistan's reputation in the cricketing world. The PCB feels that games between teams incorporating country names can be misinterpreted as official games between countries, particularly between India and Pakistan. PCB has the sole right to allow its use for cricket events if it finds the authenticity of the League and the organisation as reputable." Despite the fact that the existing Pakistan Champions side is permitted to feature in the final fixture against South Africa Champions this Saturday, new private teams must seek approval from the PCB before they can use the name of the country in any cricket competition. The PCB further threatened legal action against any private organisation that uses the name of Pakistan without approval. Numerous private clubs have previously adopted the name 'Pakistan' in minor cricket leagues in nations such as Zimbabwe, Kenya, and the USA. In order to prevent this, the Pakistan government and the Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee (IPC), which oversees sports in the country, have instructed the PCB to get a complete hold on who adopts the name of the nation in sport.
