Former Pakistan batting legend Mohammad Yousuf has raised serious concerns over Shoaib Malik’s continued participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), urging the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to set clear boundaries on player eligibility and age. Speaking on Samaa TV, Yousuf did not hold back in voicing his frustration about the 43-year-old Malik occupying a spot that could go to a younger player. “PCB needs to draw a line. If you ask me, I’ll play too,” said Yousuf, pointing out that the board needs to take stronger action to define who should be allowed to play in such tournaments. He further added that while everyone wants to play in the PSL, the PCB must step in to ensure youngsters are not denied opportunities. “I think the board needs to decide who can play and who can’t. The board needs to make some decisions. Everyone wants to play,” he added. Yousuf’s comments reflect a growing sentiment within the cricketing fraternity that, while senior players like Malik bring experience and value, a lack of balance in team selection could limit opportunities for emerging talent. Meanwhile, in the same interview, Shahid Afridi offered a more balanced view. The former all-rounder expressed support for Shoaib Malik’s decision to continue playing, but also emphasized the need to create space for young cricketers to develop. However, he advised that Malik should consider sitting out a few games to allow younger players, who have earned their place through performance, a chance to showcase their skills. Afridi said: "Malik can play some matches, but he should also miss a few games so that youngsters get their chance as they have performed to get here.” Malik’s PSL 2025 campaign so far Shoaib Malik represents Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing PSL 2025 season. In the two matches he has played so far, he has scored 14 runs in the only innings he batted and has conceded 35 runs in the two overs he bowled. Quetta Gladiators have won one and lost one in their first two games and currently sit in fourth place on the points table.
