Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has further fueled speculation around the upcoming India vs Pakistan match at the Asia Cup. While most Indians are in doubt about playing against Pakistan, Naqvi clarified that his board would not beg to talk again to the BCCI in the future. In spite of indications of overtures from the Indian government and the BCCI, Naqvi has declined to relent. Both boards recently agreed on playing at neutral grounds, and hence India will play Pakistan in Dubai despite Pakistan being the official host of the tournament. Naqvi made the statement following India's Sports Ministry's reiteration of its line of not playing bilateral cricket with Pakistan, a position held since 2013. The acceptance of participation in multi-nation events such as the Asia Cup is, however, unchanged. The PCB chairman, who is also Pakistan's Interior Minister, remained resolute against the pressure of the BCCI, saying that Pakistan would not yield. His decision comes after previous negotiations, wherein India had refused to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. As part of the compromise, the PCB ensured hosting rights for an upcoming ICC Women's tournament along with the neutral venue agreement. Here is what Naqvi said in a press conference in Lahore, as per Dawn: “I think we are very clear that whenever talks are held, it will be on an equal footing with India, and there will be no more begging for negotiations. That time has passed, and whatever will happen will be on the basis of equality,” Naqvi is not wrong either. When India didn't agree to play in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, he struck a deal with the ICC and BCCI. Playing at the neutral venue was one of the terms of the deal, along with PCB being awarded the hosting rights of an ICC Women's tournament in the future. Actually, if anything, the BCCI has appeared weaker. Sure, Pakistan didn't host India, but given that most of the revenue of the ICC comes from the BCCI, it was the PCB that emerged victorious. Also, it appears that the BCCI is more desperate to host an India vs Pakistan match for the Asia Cup, as no fuss over Pakistan's inclusion has been raised in their country.
