With the 2025 Asia Cup only two months from now, there are still uncertainties on Team India's participation. In particular, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), of which PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is the chairman, has sent a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the concerns of sponsors and broadcasters requesting clarity on India's confirmation of the tournament schedule. The ACC, in its letter to the BCCI, has conveyed to it the pressure from its media and sponsorship partners because of the uncertainty over the participation of the Men in Blue. Times Now has reported that the ACC has said that uncertainty is putting a significant dent in the partners' ability to strategise, invest, and launch campaigns. Here is what ACC wrote in its letter to the BCCI "We have been informed that in the absence of this information, their ability to plan effectively, allocate resources, and execute their campaigns is significantly constrained. In addition, to highlighting the challenges being faced by them, the media rights partner has highlighted obligations under the Agreement which commence 60 and 90 days prior to the commencement of the 2025 Tournament. Our sponsorship rights partner, TCM, have outlined the commercial concerns associated, particularly in terms of timelines required for effective monetization and activation planning," Sony (broadcast partner) and TCM (sponsorship partner) have stated that delays can lead to lost commercial opportunities, particularly considering the proximity of other large ICC and international competitions. The letter also threatened that extended delays would be interpreted as a violation of terms of agreement and can even prompt claims for payment or requests for discounts. "In addition, given the proximity of other major ICC and international events, both Sony and TCM have raised concerns that further delays could result in missed commercial opportunities that may not be recoverable due to existing scheduling and lead-time limitations. In light of this, and importantly, with fixtures for other major tournaments now confirmed, we are hoping to alleviate the concerns of our rights holders finalize the Asia Cup fixtures within this week. This is especially important for the ACC as the Men's Asia Cup is the main source of income for the organization. We believe that further delays may pose the risk of our partners claiming breaches of Agreement and seeking discount," the letter added. Also Read | Will India Host Asia Cup 2025? Scheduled initially to be hosted by India, the Asia Cup 2025 would now most likely be organized in the UAE in view of the terrorist strike at Pahalgam and subsequent action by India through Operation Sindoor, which had agitated Indo-Pak relations. The Asia Cup is set to start on September 5, and the India vs Pakistan match will take place on September 7, according to The Times of India. If both teams make it to the Super Four stage, they could face each other on September 14 and once again in the final on September 21. The tournament will be played using the same T20 format and structure as in 2022 and 2023.
