Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, reportedly admitted feeling “like a cartoon” during the 2025 Asia Cup presentation ceremony in Dubai. The revelation came during an ACC meeting on Tuesday, according to PTI, which cited sources present at the session. The final of the Asia Cup saw India edge Pakistan in a tense last-over finish. Following the victory, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy and medals from Naqvi, citing his history of antagonistic statements against India. Despite suggestions from the BCCI to have neutral officials, such as Khalid Al Zarooni of the Emirates Cricket Board or Bangladesh’s Aminul Islam, present the awards, Naqvi declined. Naqvi exited the venue with ACC officials and the trophy in tow, while Indian players conducted improvised celebrations on the dais. CNN-News18 reported that the BCCI, represented by Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar, strongly objected to Naqvi’s handling of the ceremony. Naqvi allegedly took the trophy to his hotel and was instructed to return it to ACC headquarters in Delhi. During the ACC meeting, Naqvi’s remarks initially omitted congratulating India, though he did acknowledge Nepal’s victory over West Indies and welcomed Mongolia to the ACC. Shelar questioned the omission, prompting Naqvi to issue reluctant congratulations to India. The scheduled election of the ACC vice-chairman was postponed, reportedly due to tensions surrounding the presentation controversy. Sources said the topic of India’s objections was deferred for discussion at a later date, leaving the ceremonial dispute unresolved but formally acknowledged.
