The countdown for the Champions Trophy 2025 is nearing and Pakistan is bracing to host the first ever ICC event on its soil after a hiatus of almost 29 years. Much more crucially, for the nation's cricket team, this is their last ICC silverware win of the same coveted mega cricket showdown that they achieved way back in 2017. Although they have developed several players in the aftermath of claiming their next title, the team has suffered a huge blow in the form of an injury to one of their opening batters, Saim Ayub. In a Test match against South Africa, Saim Ayub ran after a ball hit by Rickelton, and Aamer Jamal was also running after it. Ayub was supposed to be the relay fielder while Jamal picked up the ball, but he lost his balance and twisted his ankle, which made him leave the field. Ayub went for scans immediately, and the reports stated that he had a fracture. He was reported to be out for six weeks. Notably, Ayub twisted his ankle while fielding in the first Test of the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. He was ruled out for at least six months, and the PCB had arranged treatment for his ankle by England's leading sports orthopaedic specialists. Yet, lately, the Chairman, PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, informed him about the possibility of recovery. Here is what Naqvi said as quoted by Zee News "Saim Ayub's leg cast will come off in 1-2 days. After that, he will enter the recovery phase, which will take time. I am in constant touch with the team regarding his condition. I don't want to put his future at risk because of one Champions Trophy,” Chairman PCB @MohsinnaqviC42 on #saimayub pic.twitter.com/dNIDd8Uwt2 — Sohail Imran (@sohailimrangeo) January 26, 2025 Unlike other teams, Pakistan haven't announced their team for Champions Trophy 2025. The date to announce the initial squad is on January 11 and the final squad on February 11. PCB will most probably release the names next week and surely Mohammed Rizwan will be their skipper as he was recently appointed as the new white-ball Captain replacing Shaheen Afridi.
