Owner of LSG Sanjeev Goenka had a heated exchange with captain Rishabh Pant after their loss to the Punjab Kings in Lucknow. During the conversation, being very much irritated with the performance of the team, Goenka kept pointing fingers at Pant. Goenka then proceeded to embrace the captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, in appreciation of his terrific performance. Iyer was exceptional as both captain and batsman as he scored another fifty in the match, his second consecutive one. Goenka's wife, Preeti Goenka, was present during the animated exchange, which is exactly what fans were reminded of a year ago when Goenka had a similar jaw-biting tussle with KL Rahul following LSG's appallingly heavy loss to SRH in Lucknow. The entire conversation broadcasted on live TV, much to the considerable discontent of fans. Iyer went on to score a blistering unbeaten 52 off 30 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes, and this was his second consecutive unbeaten fifty, moving his season tally to 149 runs without getting dismissed. Iyer, purchased by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore, had a brief stint as IPL's costliest player. However, that record was broken almost immediately as Lucknow Super Giants purchased Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crore in the same auction. LSG managed to post 171-7 mostly thanks to contributions from Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Aiden Markram, and Abdul Samad. However, none of them could convert their starts into good scores, resulting in another sub-par total for the team.
