As the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction is nearing, the franchises are indulging in sorting out the retention players for their teams. IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) recently announced the arrival of their new head coach, Ricky Ponting for the upcoming season. Punjab Kings have chosen to keep most of their support staff intact following the appointment of Ricky Ponting as their new head coach, with fast bowling coach James Hopes expected to be the only new addition for IPL 2025. Ponting, who took over last month, is likely bringing in Hopes, a fellow Australian, who worked with him during his tenure at Delhi Capitals. Ricky Ponting has signed a four-year deal with the PBKS in the hope of turning the team's fortunes around. Despite their long history in the IPL, Punjab has yet to secure a title, with their only finals appearance dating back to 2014. With the player retention deadline set for October 31, Ponting still hasn't made a decision on how many players will be kept ahead of the mega auction. Punjab Kings are likely to search for a captain for their team at the upcoming mega auction. The team will be hoping to bring a fresh approach to their IPL campaign in the upcoming edition.
