Who is to blame for the fielding when both teams have left so many catches today! Catches win matches but neither team was beyond par with their fielding efforts, yet Punjab Kings got the tides to turn on their side at their home ground, Mullanpur. A strong century from the young Priyansh Arya followed by a half-century from Shashank Singh eased a 18-run win against CSK. To be very honest, at some point, the match looked to have slipped away from the hosts' hands when Thala MS Dhoni walked in to the field. The body language looked different, not his usual relaxed one but a determined one, most importantly, coming at 3 down, which is not his usual position in recent days. Even though he took time, the repetitive boundaries did the talking for him. Yash Thakur might get enough blame for dropping at least two catches, but it was he who bowled a low full toss outside leg. Dhoni, getting a soft edge, sends the ball to Yuzvendra Chahal at short fine leg. Chahal has been a pro by now for dropping catches, wobbled a bit, but took the catch, surprising Shreyas Iyer as well. Dhoni's cameo ended with 27 runs coming from 12 balls. Rachin Ravindra gave a good start but ended after he scored 36 runs, as Glenn Maxwell got the first taste of blood for PBKS. Lockie Ferguson then bagged captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for just 1 run, thanks to Shashank Singh's athletic glide at the short-mid wicket. Shivam Dube looked good, scored 42 runs, but Ferguson chipped off his bails. Devon Conway walked out, retired hurt scored 69 runs. Prabhsimran Singh failed, but Priyansh came out of the syllabus. A life given in the offspring period of his innings, Priyansh nurtured the life to a century that came off from 39 balls. Keeping aside all the records, it was the foundation for PBKS' win today. The Punjab middle order was disastrous. None crossed 9, but Shashank, who scored an undefeated half century. Marco AJnsen needs a special mention. He not only quickfired 34 runs off 19 balls but also maintained a smile, despite Punjab fielders dropping at least three catches in one of his overs. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two wickets each, while Noor Ahmed and Mukesh Chowdhury bagged one each.
