Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins has hit out at an Australian media outlet for misrepresenting his views on India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Cummins, who is currently recovering from an injury, expressed frustration over a misleading report by Code Cricket that falsely attributed quotes to him. The controversy began when Code Cricket posted a tweet on February 25, claiming that Cummins had criticized the ICC for giving India an unfair advantage in the tournament. The report suggested that Cummins called the tournament a "farce" and opposed the idea of teams choosing where they wanted to play. The Code quoted Pat Cummins, while its was actually said by the English commentator, Jonathan Agnew, "You can’t pick and choose where you play and where you’re not going to play... It makes a farce of these tournaments.” Cummins wasted no time in clarifying his stance. He denied making any such remarks and criticized the publication for fabricating statements. The Australian captain stated that while he acknowledged India's advantage in the tournament, his actual words were taken out of context. He pointed out that India playing all their matches at one venue gave them an upper hand, as they wouldn’t have to travel like other teams. However, his comments were far from an outright criticism of the ICC or India. Pat said in the interview with Yahoo Australia, "I think it's good in that the tournament can go on, but obviously, it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong, and they've got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there.” Former England captain Nasser Hussain also weighed in on the debate, agreeing that India's fixed venue in Dubai worked in their favor. Speaking on Sky Sports, Hussain said, “Pakistan may be the host, but India has the home advantage. They stay in one place, use the same dressing room, and know the conditions well. It’s definitely a big plus for them.” Cummins, meanwhile, is focused on his recovery and aims to return in time for the Indian Premier League. He emphasized that his primary goal is to regain fitness and prepare for upcoming tournaments.
