Australia Test captain Pat Cummins may skip the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, comprising two Tests and one-off ODI, citing family responsibilities. Cummins is going to be a father for the second time as his wife Becky Boston is going to give birth to their second child later this month. If Cummins leaves, either Steve Smith or Travis Head may lead Australia. Cummins expressed his desire to balance his work and personal life, especially after the loss of his mother, Maria. During the launch of the Pink Test for the McGrath Foundation—a cherished initiative within Australian cricket that now extends its support to all cancer patients—Pat Cummins reflected on how his perspective has evolved over time. He said, "In some ways it really makes you focus in on what I think is important. It's family, it's enjoyment, it's trying to find joy in life and I think that's been a slight shift in the way I've approached playing and touring and it's just given me that real decluttering mindset. When you go out you just want to play well and of course there's going to be pressure, but you don't want to forget that what mum and dad used to say to us every time we went and played as kids, was to go and enjoy it. Try your best, but make sure you enjoy it. I try and remind myself of that every time I go on a tour or play." His son Albie was born in 2021. Cummins got to stay with his wife during his birth and had to leave for his commitment to Australia for the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai. Recalling such memories, he regretted missing time with his son. He further said, "I missed a big chunk last time. I want to spend more time at home for this initial period."
