Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was seen recently practicing with the red ball after missing a Test for India since September 2018. He raised hopes of return to Test cricket in six years, but former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel during rain delay on the second day of ongoing Bangladesh-India second Test in Kanpur rejected the possibility of Hardik's Test comeback. Parthiv said he saw Hardik only practicing with the red ball because they had no white balls to play. India has scheduled eight Tests in the next three months. Fans are eagerly looking for the return of Hardik, but Parthiv considers Hardik's body not fit for the five-day cricket format. Hindustan Times quoted Parthiv Patel saying: "I’m not looking at Hardik Pandya (in Tests). He was practicing with the red ball only because the white ball wasn’t available. I don’t think his body allows four-day and five-day matches. He has to play at least one first-class game (before being considered for selection in Tests), which is very unlikely." He feels that India could have given Yash Dayal a debut in this Test match. He said: "The second Test was an opportunity for India to use Yash Dayal. And no, I’m not undermining Bangladesh, but if this Test match ends in a draw, it is very important to address that the next series will be against New Zealand, and then they won’t be in a position to experiment." Came into limelight while playing for RCB in IPL 2024, Yash Dayal had received his maiden Test call for the same series but he has not featured in either of the two Tests yet. It may be that Dayal is released from the team and is available to play for Rest of India in the Irani Cup 2024 game, scheduled to take place on October 1 at Lucknow.
