Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has got a remarkable promotion in the Test team after being named as the vice-captain for the future. Pant will be serving as the deputy of star batter Shubman Gill, who has taken over as the new Test captain after Rohit Sharma's retirement. The first task for the pair will be the English series, which is less than a couple of days in advance, and prior to the series, Pant has announced a striking statement. Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Leeds on June 18, Rishabh Pant addressed and ended the speculation surrounding Shubman Gill’s batting position in the red-ball format. He assured that Gill would now be batting at No. 4 in the format, who was earlier being used in that role by Virat Kohli for most of his career. Further, the second-in-command also ensured that he will continue batting at No. 5. But the greatest puzzle with Gill's decline in his batting slot is the batter who will fill in as India's No. 3 batter in the red-ball team. The strongest candidates currently appear to be Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and B Sai Sudharsan, all of whom have been in top form recently, and are likely to be long-term bets for the team in the wake of the retirement of seniors such as Rohit and Virat Kohli.
