Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has addressed the social media trolls who often mock his English-speaking skills, stating that his priority is cricket, not language fluency. Rizwan’s interviews in English have gone viral in the past, frequently drawing sarcastic comments and memes from fans online. Speaking ahead of Multan Sultans' opening game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season, Rizwan offered an honest reflection on the issue during an interaction with Pakistani journalists. He used the opportunity to advise younger cricketers to prioritize their studies. “I don’t care what people say. I’m proud that whatever I speak, I speak from the heart. Yes, I don’t know much English, but I’m not even one percent ashamed of it, even if I’m the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team", he said. He further added: “There is regret that I didn’t complete my education, which is why I struggle with English. That’s why I always tell my juniors—focus on your studies so you don’t face this issue". The wicketkeeper-batter also emphasized that the national team's demand from him is performance on the field, not fluency in a foreign language. “At the moment, Pakistan needs cricket from me, not English,” Rizwan said. “If the country ever starts demanding English from me, I’ll leave cricket and become a professor. But I don’t think I have that much time.” Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultans will begin their PSL 2025 campaign against Karachi Kings on April 12 at the National Bank Stadium. The match will also feature several top overseas players, including David Warner, Shai Hope, Michael Bracewell, James Vince, and Kane Williamson.
