Harbhajan Singh, the legendary off-spinner of India, has issued a strong statement against Pakistan. he stated that the absence of Pakistan in the future ICC events that will be hosted in India will not affect much. This message came amidst the current debate on the decision of India about not traveling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in response to India's decision, demanded for a hybrid model for every ICC event that will be hosted by India till 2031. In an interview with Sports Today on YouTube, Harbhajan Singh bluntly stated: “If Pakistan doesn’t want to come to India, so be it. It won’t make much of a difference to us." He stated to PTI that: "Ask any player—they’d be ready to play in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. We rarely see India-Pakistan matches these days anyway. Pakistan should set their ego aside and agree to the hybrid model. Security concerns for India have been an issue since 2022." Speaking about the disappointments of the cricket fans in Pakistan who are missing an opportunity to witness players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan stated: “I feel bad for the fans there. They aren’t at fault, but until the political situation improves, things won’t change. It’s unfortunate they can’t witness champion players like Kohli and others live." They wouldn’t charge us for food at the markets and often gifted us shawls," he recalled." However, he still stood by his words saying that it would not be an ideal decision to travel to Pakistan amidst this political tension. The former cricketer recommended the Pakistan Cricket Board to adopt a more sensible approach and let the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to go ahead smoothly. He said: “The PCB should drop their rigid stance. The tournament shouldn’t be marred by unnecessary conflict." The much-awaited tournament is set to commence on 19th February 2025 and the venues for this tournament are Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. The tournament is just three months away, still there is no clarity on whether it will be played under a hybrid model or not. This has also delayed the schedule announcement of the tournament as the venues are yet to be finalized for the India matches.
