In a shocking development, the family house of Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah was attacked by unidentified gunmen in Lower Dir just a day before Pakistan's opening match against Sri Lanka. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the incident took place in the early hours of Monday, November 10. However, no injuries were reported as the attackers ran away after firing several rounds near the property. Police have initiated an investigation but the attackers are still at large. According to DAWN, Naseem’s father met with police officials after the incident.The police authorities have assured the family that the culprits will be caught soon. The motive behind the attack is not known. The 21-year-old pacer came in place of Abrar Ahmed in the lineup from the team which played against South Africa in the last ODI. Naseem’s inclusion was the only change captain Shaheen Afridi made for the opening ODI. The right-arm seamer had been in good form earlier, taking a three-wicket haul in Pakistan's two-wicket win over South Africa in the first ODI. However, he didn't get a wicket in the second game and was rested for the series decider in Faisalabad. His return against Sri Lanka came amidst emotional circumstances, showcasing his dedication towards the team. His younger brothers, Hunain and Ubaid Shah, are also cricketers and part of the PSL - representing Islamabad United and Multan Sultans, respectively. However, both are yet to make their debut for the national side. It is still not confirmed whether family members of Naseem were present at home during the firing. Security around the Shah residence has now been strengthened as police continue their investigation. As of now, Naseem remains focused on the ongoing series while the authorities work to track down those responsible for the attack.
