Pakistan have decided to carry three specialist spinners into the second Multan Test as they have included finger spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan, besides wrist spinner Zahid Mahmood in the XI on Monday. Kamran Ghulam will make a Pakistan debut as he replaces Babar Azam at No.4. Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed were other three members replaced from the side, which became the first team to lose Test by an innings after scoring total more than 500 in the first innings. There were four changes in the Pakistan side from their last game as a result of an hour-long meeting between the selectors appointed recently, comprising Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, and Aaqib Javed, along with Shan Masood, Jason Gillespie, Tony Hemming (head curator), and Usman Wahla (PCB's director for international cricket operations). The team had a discussion for almost an hour by the pitch, which is going to be used again in the second Test. They studied every crack and every footmark. Contrary to this strategy, the selectors told the pitch curator to present an off-spinner-friendly surface from day one. The presence of only one fast bowler in the team is Aamer Jamal and forcing Pakistan to start with a spinner, probably Sajid as he did earlier while bowling at Sydney. Steve Smith is set to move to Middle-order in BGT 2024-25 Noman, who last played in July 2023, took seven wickets in the second innings of the Colombo Test to see Pakistan win against Sri Lanka. The bowler has traveled to Australia last year but had to return before the first Test due to appendicitis and had to look for attention there. Mahmood played only two Tests, both of which were against England in December 2022. Noman and Mahmood were part of the side that played the first Test but left the scene when Pakistan decided to play only one specialist spinner, Abrar. Pakistan's top seven remains the same with the lone change being Ghulam for the rested Azam. Ghulam has been a consistent first-class performer. He has scored 4,525 runs at a first-class average of 49.72. Since 2023, he has so far struck 13 centuries and has scored 1,055 runs with an average of 55.53. Before that, he had been summoned to Pakistan's Test campaign against Bangladesh but was excluded from the first Test against Bangladesh in Multan. Ghulam Muqtada achieved a record during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy of the 2020-21 in which he had scored 1,249 runs and was declared "Domestic Cricketer of the Year." Ghulam Muqtada has only played one ODI in which he has not faced a single delivery. These changes reflect Pakistan's effort to end their losing sequence, as they have now lost six Tests in succession, all under Shan Masood's captaincy, and are winless at home since February 2021. During the first Test, Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, and Saud Shakeel were also pitching in with spin, thereby raising Pakistan's spin resources to six.
