Former Pakistan cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram have expressed their disappointment over the absence of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representation at the ICC Champions Trophy final award ceremony. India won the title by defeating New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, marking their second ICC trophy in 12 months. Despite Pakistan being the official host of the tournament, no PCB official was present during the trophy presentation. Speaking on the Dressing Room show, Wasim Akram found the situation puzzling. “As far as I know, Chairman Saab wasn’t well, but the officials present from PCB were Sumair Ahmad Syed and Usman Wahla. However, no one was on the stage,” Akram said. He stressed the importance of Pakistan having a representative on the stage, adding: “We were the hosts, weren’t we? How come even the COO of PCB or whoever was representing the Chairman wasn’t on stage? Were they not invited? I don’t know the story, but it definitely looked odd to me. It was imperative that Pakistan had representation in any form,” he said. The ceremony featured prominent officials, including International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chief Roger Binny, and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia. Jay Shah presented the ICC Champions Trophy, while Roger Binny distributed the white blazers to the champions. But one odd thing stood out: no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board was present during the presentation ceremony. Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy, but there was no representative. It is beyond me. The tournament was hosted by us, yet nobody was there. Feeling very down to see that.” This is literally beyond my understanding. Other teams had to switch between venues, but India remained at the same venue throughout, ultimately winning the trophy despite a loss.
